Paul’s Story

A Career in Benefits

Paul Pruitt has dedicated the majority of his career to the pharmacy and employee benefits space. At Broker Benefit Services, where he served as both COO and CFO, Paul drove agency growth and strengthened client retention before the company was acquired in 2012.

He later led the benefits practice for a large national bank in Franklin, Tennessee, designing health plans that balanced budgets with employee needs.

Even then, Paul grew frustrated by what felt like a broken system. Rising drug costs seemed untouchable, and the industry’s attempts at solutions were little more than “shuffling chairs on the Titanic.”

When Professional Became Personal

In 2015, Paul and his wife welcomed their first son, who was soon diagnosed with Cystinosis, a rare genetic disease. When their second son was also born with the same condition, Paul’s world changed. Overnight, he became what he calls a “hyper-user” of the healthcare system.

The medication that keeps his sons healthy comes at an unimaginable price. In 2017, it cost about $50,000 per month, per child. Today, it has climbed to more than $110,000 a month—nearly $2.5 million each year.

But the financial burden was only part of the struggle. Even with Paul’s expertise in the brokerage space and his wife’s background as a nurse, it took more than five hours every week just to secure refills and approvals.

Finding Purpose in the Struggle

Instead of despair, Paul found purpose. Connecting with other families in the Cystinosis community, he uncovered new ways forward. He realized the very problem bankrupting employers was the same one threatening his children’s future.

When the opportunity arose to build a business model that could finally tackle high-cost medications head-on, the timing was perfect.

The Birth of SHARx

That convergence of personal need and professional expertise led Paul to SHARx, where he now serves as Chief Growth Officer. In this role, he builds strategic partnerships, strengthens broker relationships, and champions a mission that’s deeply personal: ensuring Americans pay a fair price for the drugs that keep them alive.

A Clear Vision

Paul knows better than most that the healthcare system can feel overwhelming, confusing, and hopeless. That’s why he is committed to making the SHARx experience simple, supportive, and human.

His vision is clear:

No one should ever have to choose between affording medication and affording basic necessities.

Through SHARx, Paul is turning that vision into reality for families and employers across the country.
